The paper deals with an optimization aimed to improve the efficiency of the central pallet rack warehouse and of the intermediate non-automated warehouses. Their locations and capacity of are determined, while taking into account their current number, spatial distribution, number of transport forklift trucks and available locations for main and intermediate warehouses. We addressed the allocation of production plans using linear programming (LP). A scheduling program implementing addition expert algorithms generates a series of related Gantt charts.

We present a technique for writing simple and transparent programs for solving some optimal control problems. We perform the linearization of the dynamical system, modeled by a system of ordinary or algebraic differential equations. We use also the linear programming techniques. The object function minimization is done with Euler discretization of the dynamic system and of the object function. We search for the best solution iteratively, with occasional recalibration in the continual function space. We limit the control and status variables accordingly.

In the paper we present some basic methods in optimal system control theory, applicable to systems, represented in the form of differential equations. We discuss the link between the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation and the equivalent canonical system. We address also the transcription of these methods in discrete forms using the methods of Euler and of pseudospectral collocation. The discrete form is the basis for various systems control algorithms. An example of the direct method is shortest path search in a process graph.
