The article describes the procedures for reactive infiltration and reactive sintering under atmospheric pressure that were later used also during the synthesis of intermetallic alloys within the Mg-Si-Sn-Ca systems. The procedures include the development of a sophisticated experimental technique that is a precondition for an economic preparation of binary intermetallic alloys, such as TiAl, Ti3Al, TiAl3, Mg2Si, Mg2Ca and Mg2Sn.

COBISS.SI-ID: 21697831In an invited talk given at the 1st International Conference on Materials and Technologies under the auspices of the FEMS and IUVSTA in Portorož, we presented the industrial potential of the procedures for the reactive infiltration and reactive sintering under atmospheric pressure used for the preparation of various composites including Ti-Al, Mg-Si, Mg-Sn and Mg-Ca. However, the articles describing, in detail, the preparation and characterisation of the Ti-Al and Mg-Si, and Mg-Sn and Mg-Ca composites, are still in the process of being published.
