The XGIS framework supports Windows and Linux operating systems. It allows an application to visualize three-dimensionally Slovenia (or any other area) in Mercator projection, as well as the whole Earth as a virtual globe. It can acquire data in real-time from multiple web servers and schedule the requests among the servers, as well as use local data. It can also visualize some athmosperic phenomena, namely clouds and rain. The framework and test application are open source, available under the terms of the GPL v3 free software license. Registration in the COBISS database is in progress.

COBISS.SI-ID: 22567719Our paper, which compares computational and networking demands of two approaches of terrain visualization on a Google Android-based smartphone, was accepted to the conference. In the first approach the visualization application runs on the server and live image is streamed to the phone, while the other uses the phone's computational ability to render the terrain locally. Live demonstration of the application is planned at the conference. The paper will be published in the conference proceedigns, after which it will also be registered in the COBISS database.
