The lecture presents the basic definitions and topics such as behavioural mapping as a tool, behavioural mapping as a manuscript of information, observation and activities mapping, GIS behavioural mapping, the role of empirical knowledge and meaning of observation and behavioural mapping for contemporary urban design.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2249411The key interest of the research is the usage of places. The method observation and GIS behavioural mapping is used. This method gives a researcher an opportunity to record traces of behaviour such as left rubbish, moved urban furniture, and by this comments on other aspects of behaviour which during the observation are not always noted. Although this research is focused on actual usage, it is concerned by a comprehensive approach and addresses the evaluation of places from 4 viewpoints: accessibility and connectivity, land use and diversity of activities, comfort and image, and sociability.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2228675GIS behavioural data analysis is a model which addresses a physicality of places using the language of patterns of users. It visualises facts, such as location and duration of different types of activities, demonstrates derived results based on statistical calculations, such as frequency of a particular use, analyses maps as graphical sources in order to address sizes, shapes, density and intensity of occupancies in places, as well as provides empirical knowledge about stimulating and effective as well as inhibitive environments for occupancies in places.
