There are no wholesome indicators to evaluate the sustainability of a production system (PS). Our goal was to extend and use a tool - the Sustainable Process Index ® (SPI) - for evaluating the sustainability of cabbage and beetroot production in 4 PS (conventional, integrated, organic and biodynamic) and a control treatment. Results show great differences between PS, where critical points in need of improvement during the production process become visible (fertilisation and machinery use). SPI is a good and accessable tool for producers and policy makers.

The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between plasma stress markers (cortisol, neopterin, Hsp70) at slaughter and different carcass and meat quality traits in pigs. The results showed no association of neopterin or Hsp70 content with any of studied parameters. The relationship between cortisol level and different carcass and meat quality traits showed that the level of plasma cortisol at slaughter reflects more than just acute pre-slaughter stress. In accordance with published research (in humans) higher cortisol level was associated with higher fatness of pigs.
