About the nature of creative process towards innovations

When something new is created, which is actually the aim of any innovation, a step outside a known and conventional is done. Thus, the scientific method of linear thinking is continuously upgraded and interwined by lateral thinking. The first way of thinking is in its nature more rational and the latter more integrated, intuitive. The related problems that emerge from an unbalance between the two ways od thinking are topic of this lecture.

Philosophical insights about modern science

The chapter introduces a holistic approach to modern dilemma of energy balance in human society. It starts with historical background of energy flows in human civilization, continues with explaining the physical foundations of the law of energy conservation. Modern forms of energy conversion from sources to consumers are outlined; also ecological and ethical limits to growth of energy consumption are discussed. It seems at this moment that the solution to energy thirst is not straightforward but is rather combined of many small solutions inside the complex network of energy sources and drains.

Modern production engineering

The handbook covers wide range of materials encountered in production, such as metals, ceramics, polymers, and coating materials used to enhance surfaces as well as processes for material characterisation. Technology chapters include cutting, forming, and non-conventional processes, welding, coating layers, non-conventional technologies and heat treatment of materials. Further sections include the representation of machine tools, handling and assembly, fabrication systems and skills to successfully manage production.
