The authors are discussing a connection between treating Hodgkin's disease in childhood and later sudden cardiac death of the patient at the age of 37. Examined expert literature describes injuries of the myocardium after therapeutic irradiation in childhood.

COBISS.SI-ID: 913787Of the 416 patients, 0-16 years old , treated for brain tumors between 1960 and 2006, 18 developed secondary tumors. All but one secondary tumor arised inside the RT field. Six patients died of secondary tumors,12 are alive; 7 without evidence of disease. The incidence of secondary tumors after treatment of brain tumors in childhood is high, secondary brain tumors being the most frequent. Radiotherapy is the most important causative factor.Survival of the whole group is favorable, depending on the type of the secondary tumor

COBISS.SI-ID: 1006715Testing was performed on 255 consecutive patients at the time of their regular follow up appointment. Radiographic and pulmonary function abnormalities were most frequently found in patients who had mediastinal RT or CNA RT. Regular follow- up of these patients is therefore recommended. Secondary malignancy are additional reasons for continuous follow-up. Spirometry is proved to be the basic test for detection of pulmonary sequelae. Radigraphy is major indicated in clinical suspicion of second tumors.
F.22 Improvement to existing health/diagnostic methods/procedures
COBISS.SI-ID: 668539The results of the project"Late sequelae of cancer treatment in childhood cancer survivors", are presented. According the experience and the results of the project life-time follow up of childhood cancer survivors is mandatory. Because late sequelae after treament can occur in all cancer survivors with a long time life expectance, also adults up to the age of 30 years ahave been included in the project of follow-up for late sequelae after treatment of cancer.

COBISS.SI-ID: 699515In the analysis of late sequelae after treatment 771 childhood cancer survivors were included. No sequelae were found in 230 (30%) of patients, mild somatic in 237 (31%), moderate in 169 (22%), severe in 104 (13%), 26 died of secondary tumors and 5 of late effects. New methods of treatment policy including antracyclines do not guarantee less late damage to the heart. Patients with pathological findings in urine and US of the heart even without clinical symptoms, are at risk for severe late damage.
