The highest risk for injury to the valves is found in patients who had radiation therapy, for damage of systolic function and enlarged heart volume in those, who had the highest cumulative dose of antracycline, or antracyclines and alcylating agents, for diastolic function in patients who had antracyclines. The most important risk factor for cardiac damage was the period of the patients treatment, despite the radiation doses they received were lower. We are the only ones, who proved this finding with a multivariate analysis.

The results of the project: »Late effects of childhood cancer treatment« are presented. Our experience proved, that lifetime follow up in childhood cancer survivors is mandatory. Cancer survivors, who have a long life expectancy are at risk for similar late effects of treatment, therefore we are suggesting to enlarge the project with patients, who developed cancer when less than 30years old
