The paper is an overview of the theological education organized in the course of centuries by the above mentioned religious orders giving thus their contribution to the development of the theological education in Slovenia. The mentioned institutions were well known for their originality and a particular place within the Catholic community.

The research is a investigation on the collaboration of the theological teachers in the founding of the University of Ljubljana, the setting up of its functioning, programmes and educational plans, integration of the Faculty in the University and its organs. The paper gives an overview of the interventions undertaken by the Church authorities for the organization of the theological education after the Council of Trient (1945-63) and the results of such decrees in Slovenia. The attention is dedicated to the functioning of the seminary in Gornji grad and to the theological educational system in 18th century, i.e. up to the period of the so called central seminaries implemented according to the state-church ideas at the end of the 18th century.

The paper treats the historic circumstances for the foundation of a particular school of theology in Maribor after the transferring of the diocese seat in Maribor in 1859. Represented is the school programme, subjects, the most influential teachers and the school texts used in the school. The second part of the papers treats the activities of the school after the reorganization of its status before the Second World War as well as its suppression in 1941, when the nazis occupied Maribor.
