The tracing of the Farovščica sinking stream was carried out in order to assess a possible negative influence of the outflow from the water treatment plant on the Križna Cave, which is an important object of natural heritage. The studied aquifer has a complex structure with the alternation of limestone and dolomite. The results of the tracer test contribute to a better understanding of the characteristics of groundwater flow and transport of substances in such systems.

The main characteristics of the method of tracing with artificial tracers on karst are summarised. Based on gathered data and own experiences in the use of this method in the research of the characteristics of groundwater flow and transport of substances the guidelines for its application and some improvements are suggested.
