L4-0637 — Annual report 2008
1.
Ski run impact on soil ecosystem and ground vegetation.

Ski slope construction in sensitive ecosystems above upper timberline causes a certain degree of undesired disturbances. Problems of ski slope construction in European Alps are described in the paper and besides the role of vegetation in protecting soil and research plan of the project Krvavec introduced.

2.
Vegetation and below-ground assessment in sensitive ecosystem at ski run areas at the upper timber line.

Above- and below-ground biomass of vegetation plays an important role in protecting soil against erosion. Green parts of plants prevent soil from rain drops, while greater density of roots and mycorhiza usually leads to better soil fixation. In the paper methods for sampling and assessment of above- and below-ground biomass and aggregate soil stability are described and role of soil protection against erosion on ski slopes discussed.
