This paper was presented on the annual meeting of International Research Group for Wood Protection (IRG WP). Boron compounds are one of the key ingredients in commercial wood preservatives. However, they leach from wood, therefore their fixation needs to be improved with addition of hydrophobic ingredients.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1727369European patent office has granted the inovative solution for wood preservation. The object of this patent is fact that addition of hydrophobic agents (carboxylic acid) to the preservative solution can significantly improve fixation of wood preservatives. On the basis of this patent, company Silvaprodukt has launched new commercial preservative solution Silvanolin. In jear 2008, 400.000 kg of this preservative was produced.

COBISS.SI-ID: 13940224Water wax emulsions were used to improve fungicidal properties and sorption properties of wood. In this testing, there were various wax emulsions used (montan wax, carnauba wax, polyethylene wax, oxidized polyethylene wax…) for impregnation of wood. The results showed, that waxes improves sorption properties of wood, and on the other hand improves resistance against wood decay fungi. The most effective was polyethylene wax emulsion. Results were presented in one of the most prominent conference – European Conference on Wood modification.
