The purpose of the study was to establish the energy expenditure among 11-year-old boys from Ljubljana and Zagreb. We used SenseWear Bodymedia energy expenditure monitors to establish the quantity and structure of used energy in regard to intensity of physical activity during schooldays and weekends (sample of 11-year-old boys, 49 from Ljubljana and 37 from Zagreb). The results showed that energy expenditure is higher during schooldays but the differences between intensity and duration of activities are considerable. Boys from Ljubljana reach higher levels of basal energy expenditure.

The data were gathered using a questionnaire (GCPS questionnaire), a well validated tool to assess LBP intensity and disability. The association of higher level sport activity with low back pain which is in accordance with some previous reports. Published interventional studies show success of the specific workout programs such as Pilates. which could be used also for prevention and amelioration of LBP in physically active student population.

The study included 4970 boys and 4611 girls and found that less physically competent are mostly obese children, who have the biggest problems with fast explosive movements and a very low level of development of aerobic capacity.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3901617Physical inactivity, along with inadequate nutrition, is one of the main reasons of obesity. The aim of this study was to evaluate physical activity levels and energy expenditure in 11-year old girls in Slovenia and Croatia. The sample: 99 girls (SD 11.4 years). Energy expenditure and physical activity were assessed using a multiple-sensor body monitor. The results show that girls in Slovenia are engaged in more vigorous physical activity compared with their Croatian peers. The difference in physical activity levels were more pronounced during the week than on weekends.
