The article explores the unfavourable reaction to the popularisation of novel-reading in 18th-century England. It shows how the reaction coud be explained with sociological concept - moral panic - thereby revealing novel-reading as an early version of popular media culture. As such, the article explores the role of the media in public consciousness and sets the investigation in a comparative historical perspective.

The article investigates the intercultural dialogue paradigm and asks about the challenges of Europeanization with a special focus on constructions of European culture and identity. The main thesis of the article is that in order to successfully implement intercultural dialogue, conditions of participation in the dialogue need to be reassesed. In this regard, the article helps to illuminate intercultural dialogue as part of the EU agenda and the priority of the Slovenian Council of EU presidency.
