Aleš Fajmut and Milan Brumen are involved in development of a new noninvasive method for assessment of intolerance on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (with TalkingCells, Weisbaden, DE) and in research of eye lens pathology (with University Medical Centre Ljubljana). Rudolf Podgornik and Jure Derganc have collaborations with Lek Pharmaceuticals, d.d., on research of intermolecular interactions, relevant for industrial production of biologics. Jure Derganc is involved in the research of the role of omega-3 fatty acids in parenteral nutrition for newborns (with University Medical Centre Ljubljana). Nataša Vaupotič co-authored a patent application in Poland, describing a device for measuring the magnetic dipole moment of nanoparticles.
F.13 Development of new production methods and tools or processes
Primož Ziherl chaired the organizing committee of the conference Physics of Complex Colloids, Ljubljana, 14.-18. 5. 2013. Mojca Čepič served on advisory board of the 14th International Conference on Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals FLCC2013 - Advances in soft matter physics, Magdeburg (DE), 1.-6. 9. 2013. Gvido Bratina organized Graphene Workshop, Ajdovščina, 8.-11. 4. 2013, and Matej Kranjc and Primož Ziherl organized the 8th Christmas Biophysics Workshop, Dobrna, 16.-17. 12. In addition, members of the program gave a total of 11 invited talks and more than 36 other contributions at international scientific meetings, and 19 talks at foreign universities.
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
Members of the program are actively involved in teaching and administrative positions at three national universities: in Ljubljana, Maribor and Nova Gorica. Gvido Bratina is a Vice-Rector at University of Nova Gorica, Nataša Vaupotič is the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at University of Maribor and Marko Marhl is a Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Education at University of Maribor. In 2013, members of the program taught more than 50 undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervised or co-supervised 3 PhD theses and 15 undergraduate theses. Rudolf Podgornik has co-authored "Electromagnetic field" (a university level textbook), and Primož Ziherl authored "Physics of Soft Matter" (lecture notes available on-line).
D.10 Educational activities
Members of the program serve on editorial boards of several international scientific journals (Rudolf Podgornik is coeditor in chief of J. Biol. Phys. Milan Brumen, Mojca Čepič, Marko Marhl, Rudolf Podgornik and Primož Ziherl are members of editorial boards of ISRN Biomathematics, Eur. J. Phys., Biosystems, PMC Biophysics, and Phys. Rev. E, respectively) and national journals (Marko Marhl, Mojca Čepič and Milan Brumen are members of editorial boards of Fizika v šoli, Presek and Proteus, respectively). Primož Ziherl co-edited the book »Physics of Complex Colloids« (Società Italiana di Fisica, Bologna, 2013). In addition, we review manuscripts for many prominent international journals; in 2013 we peerreviewed more than 120 manuscripts. Program members served as external referees for Marie Curie mobility (EU), the National Science Centre (Poland), European Research Council and within the FP7.
C.04 Editorial board of an international magazine
Mojca Čepič was invited to the Department of Physics and Astronomy of University of Pennsylvania (USA) where she gave a series of experimental presentations about liquid crystals and their applications in liquid crystalline screen. Lectures were presented to the members of the University, to a group of gifted younger students within a special program in organization of the University, to science teachers from Pennsylvania district, to undergraduate students of physics and to public within a Science Cafe program.
