Landfill leachate usually contains low concentrations of heavy metals due to the anaerobic conditions in the methanogenic landfill body. Monitoring results showed that the substrate used in the experiment did not contribute to Cr accumulation in the landfill soil cover and no negative effects were observed in plants.

The results of intensive monitoring of soil, plants and leachate showed a high sustainability of the system regarding saline ions. There was no accumulation of saline salts observed on circulation of leachate water.

A H2O2 – HBr system and N-bromosukcinimid in an aqueous medium were used as a »green« approach to electrophilic and radical bromination. Mild reaction conditions, a straightforward isolation procedure, inexpensive reagents and a lower environmental impact make aqueous brominating methods a possible alternative to other reported brominating protocols.

Selective and efficient aerobic oxidative iodination of ketones in aqueous media was achieved by using molecular iodine as the source of iodine atoms, air as the terminal oxidant, sodium nitrite as the catalyst and H2SO4 as the activator of the overall catalytic process.
