By means of structural analysis with Rietveld method we confirmed that LaTi2Al9O19 is isostructural with SrTi3Al8O19. Bond valence sums calculations for individual ions confirmed that the obtained crystal structure obeys the rules of crystal chemistry. This does not hold true for crystal structure of La3Ti5Al15O37 with the same powder pattern and the same synthesis and which was considered as one of the largest, most complex and cited crystal structures of oxide ceramics determined ab initio. The conclusion was that crystal structure of La3Ti5Al15O37 was wrong.

This paper describes the time-related formation of hemicarboaluminate and monocarboaluminate and reports for the first time in the literature the conversion of hemicarboaluminate into monocarboaluminate on the basis of X-ray diffraction by following the content of the latter by the Rietveld method. Hemicarboaluminate appears in hydrating limestone-containing Portland cement after 1 day and almost completely converts into monocarboaluminate after 28 days of hydration. The only detectable AFm-type compound present in hydrated cement after 100 days of hydration is calcium monocarboaluminate.

This review discusses the interaction of metal ions and their complexes with DNA and its constituents (nucleobases, nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonicleotides, etc.) and (their) derivatives. The importance of these interactions in natural biological processes and the current use and future potential applications of metal based compounds in medicine (therapeutics and diagnostics) is discussed. The toxicity of metal ions and various metal species which interact and damage DNA is also reviewed.
