Using dynamic light scattering we have shown that the phenomenon of soft elasticity in liquid crystal elastomers is connected with the existence of a soft mode of fluctuations, proving that the theory of M. Warner and E. Terentjev is correct. Our measurement allowed us to determine all the parameters of the theory.

In this paper we presented the results of study of interparticle magnetic interactions between supeparanagnetic coloidal particles in spatially modulated external field. The field modulation was chosen so, that dipole part of interaction vanished. The remaining interaction turned out to be isotropic and attractive. When the concentartion of collodial particles was high stable coloidal chains and membranes were formed. Described in Guided in the right direction, News and Views, Nature Physics, vol. 6, Jan. 2010

The paper presents a method for creation and control of microfluidic pumps. The pumps were driven by rotating magnetic field that also provided their structural integrity. The speed and direction of pumping was controlled by dielectrophoretic force generated with microelectrodes. We have demonstrated that complex microfluidic systems with several self assembled micropumps that share a common magnetic propulsion and have individual control of operating parameters can be realized.

G-quadruplexes are helical structures of DN which together with telomerase control the length of the telomers and are involved in around 85% of all cancers. We have for the first time systematically investigated the growth of G4 wires as a function of temperature and ion concentration and have shown that the observed properties can be well described with a model of two-stage polymerization, where the formation of the first member is energetically much less favourable than subsequent binding.

We developed a prototype erbium doped double-clad fluoride ZBLAN fiber laser. We analyzed temperature loads in the fiber and determined parameters for high power operation.
