CIPKeBiP is connecting the top available expertise, knowhow, and technology of Slovenian research laboratories in protein science, thus emphasizing biomedical relevance of the applied project (priority health and life sciences). The Centre includes ten partner institutions from central and northeastern region of Slovenia, among them five industrial entities. We are focused on specific biological issues of high scientific relevance and of high biomedical (infectious diseases, signaling pathways) and environmental (adaption mechanisms of extremofiles) importance.
D.02 Establishment of a research centre, laboratory, study course, association
Igor Križaj was reelected in 2009 as the Secretary of European Section of the International Society on Toxinology (IST) and as a member of the IST Council. This respectable Society was founded in 1962. It is comprized of scientists and clinicians interested in advancing the science of toxinology. The purpose of the IST is advancing knowledge on the properties of toxins and antitoxins and to bring together scholars interested in these substances through a common Society. The IST is organized in three regional sections, European, Pan American and AsiaPacific. Today the Society gathers several hundreds members.

The textbook includes chapters on cell biology and genetics for the highschool students. The authors used a personalized and inovative approach to explain complex cell life which is usually abstract and difficult to understand for the highschool students, especially those which are not interested in biology. This didactical approach was recognized by the jury of European Education Publishing Group (EEPG) and International Association for the Research on Textbooks and Educational Media (IARTEM). According to their decission in 2012 at the Frankfurter book fair the textbook was awarded bronze medal in the highschool textbook category.
