In this one-hour plenary invited lecture at the international conference, dedicated to the memory of the famous Russian topologist Vladimir Rokhlin, I presented the results of the research done in this program, from dimension 4, with special emphasis on the so-called controlled surgery.

COBISS.SI-ID: 15634265Given a simply connected CW complex K, Dranishnikov characterized finite dimensional metric compacta for which K is an absolute extensor. In this lecture dr. Cencelj extended this result to the class of nilpotent CW complexes, introduced the Bockstein family for nilpotent groups and gave some results about extension of maps from separable metric spaces to nilpotent complexes.
B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 15642969This is a comprehensive introduction to the calculus of variations and its main principles, and it also presents their real-life applications in various contexts: mathematical physics, differential geometry, and optimization in economics. It can serve as a reference for researchers working in a variety of fields who are interested in partial differential equations and functional analysis.
D.10 Educational activities
COBISS.SI-ID: 15660121Young researcher Žiga Virk, who was studying for the doctoral degree under the supervision of this project leader, successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana. In his thesis he treated very current area of modern geometric topology. The methods which he developed, will play an important role in the work on the present 3-year reserach project.
