We used our knowledge from areas of computer architectures and numerical methods in optimization of oceanographic model North Atlantic Princeton Ocean Model (NAPOM), which is in active usage at the Marine Biology Station in Piran (MBP) and Slovenian environment agency (ARSO). We analyzed the MBP computer capacities and the current NAPOM software package to identify sections of the program code that were not optimal for the used hardware. We optimized and parallelized the code, speeding up execution times of the NAPOM simulation package by a factor of 4. We increased efficiency of the hardware during the calculations and decreased the energy requirements for these calculations.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26332967Based on an invitation of prof. Stephane Bordas from Cardiff University, School of Engineering, we presented our research results related to a quit new numerical method MLPG (Meshless Local Petrov Galerkin). The work of the whole group, dealing with the MLPG, was presented by an invited talk entitled: Computing Aspects of Meshless Methods: Design, Complexity and Parallelization, with authors: Roman Trobec, Marjan Šterk, Gregor Kosec, Matjaž Depolli. The members of host institution was interested in MLPG because of its eventual application in the implementation of several EU projects. The presentation was positively accepted with a plan for further research cooperation and submission of joint EU projects.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26202919A new method for an automatic show up of all used contexts is described that improves user's efficiency in writing larger pieces of textual descriptions. The context window shows all previous appearances of a current word with a selected number of its surrounding words. Anytime during the inputting or editing of a text, the context window can be activated that automatically shows contexts of currently used words. A new word, determined by a space and selected number of letters, is displayed in all its previous appearances in the text, possibly with its alternative grammar forms. The proposed methodology, which can be built in existing systems for text editing, enables better overview on the all contexts of a current word, which increases user's efficiency and text quality.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26599975We promoted a wireless multifunction body sensor for monitoring vital bio-signals is proposed. The sensor uses modern, moderately priced and user-friendly technology and robust solutions. It has an important role in mobile and non-obstructive health monitoring system. It supports advanced algorithms for local analysis of data and connections to widely available personal terminals for visualization of measurements, and further transfer of critical data, either to medical experts or to a personal database. The sensor is characterized by the fusion of different sensing functions in a single multifunction sensor. To improve the reliability and robustness of the system, measured signals, e.g., ECG, light, voice, acceleration, etc., can be combined in order to prevent the rising of false alarms. We show that such a system can achieve a reliability needed for commercial implementation in applications offering medical care and monitoring services.
