Three different nonpersistent radicals bearing )NO moiety have been used to oxidize the viscose fibers at room temperature and alkaline pH. The generation of the free radical species was achieved in situ, from their corresponding OH precursors: 1-hydroxybenzotriazole, violuric acid, and N-hydroxy-3,4,5,6-tetraphenylphthalimide. Notably, as a result of the introduction of hydrophilic carboxylate groups, the water retention values of the oxidized fibers increased by 35% as compared to the original nonoxidized sample.

The aim of this study was to compare the disinfection effect of three disinfection agents in washing procedures at a low temperature (30°C). It was determined that the disinfection effect was appropriate for one of the three chosen disinfection agents at 30°C with a duration of main washing after 43 min as both bacteria were inactivated. E. faecium proved to be more resistant as it survived after 43 min of main washing using two of the three chosen disinfectants. No bacteria were found on the cotton pieces after rinsing due to their transfer into the washing bath.

A new reductase from B. subtilis was used to reduce the redox dyes into their water-soluble leuco form. The enzymatic reduction of the dyes was studied and optimized in relation to pH and temperature conditions. The kinetic constants were determined and compared to the chemically-reduced leuco form.

This paper presents proposed solutions for water reuse implementation in two Slovene textile finishing companies. As a first step a very complete database was obtained with the collection and characterization of all relevant water related textile production processes. On the one hand, data concerning water use, chemicals and energy were collected for all relevant production processes. On the other hand, all relevant batch discharges from each process were analyzed by measuring relevant ecological parameters.
