Miha Humar and Hojka Kraigher co-edited monograph book entitled Rational use of wood in the context of the sustainable forestry. This is the first book in Slovenia and in Europe (in the past 20 years), where there are relevant cases from the whole product chain forestry, wood and paper presented in one book. All institutions of national importance to wood and forestry collaborated on this project

COBISS.SI-ID: 246993408In collaboration with members of Institute ˝Jožef Stefan˝ we invented A single point NMR method for an instantaneous determination of the moisture content of wood. At the moment this invention is in the procedure to get patent at The Slovenian Intellectual Property Office. With some advanced development this method can be used in research filed as well as for industry purposes for water determination in wood and other porous materials. This achievement was already presented on international conference.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23354151All our investigations are focused on environmental issues. Within this scope, 14 professional assessments of situations in various wood sector companies were prepared. A typical example is the “Assessment of accordance with the surface finishing best available techniques in Gorenje notranja oprema, d.o.o., Velenje”. Together with the other similar assessments it represents an important way of collaboration of the research group with the companies. On the basis of our assessments, they are successfully implementing environmental legislation into their production processes.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1724041At the International Conference TRACE, the problems related to the oak dendrochronology in Slovenia and its potential for conservation of cultural heritage and for ecological studies were presented. Special emphasis were given to use this data for enabling the reconstruction of climate and climate change modeling, and for the development of dendrochronology in the former Yugoslavia or South Eastern Europe. The contribution is the result of collaboration between experts of the two program groups.
F.27 Contribution to preserving/protecting natural and cultural heritage
COBISS.SI-ID: 1715337This research considered the use of liquefied wood as a formaldehyde scavenger for particleboards and plywood, when added to the urea- and melamine-urea formaldehyde adhesive. The share of added liquefied wood varied between 10 and 100% for particleboard and 15 and 30% for plywood. For the determination of formaldehyde emission gas analysis and Perforator method were used. It was determined that liquefied wood could be used as a formaldehyde scavenger to the certain extent (10%-30 %).
