The Proceedings which were edited by the occasion of the conference dedicated to antimicrobial substances include 23 review articles or presentations of research work of different slovene groups in the field of biotechnology and microbiology – linked to antimicrobial substances. These are the sixth proceedings of the conferences, which were organized by the research group Chair of Biotechnology.

Lešnik gained a special Krka Prize in 2009 for her PhD thesis entitled »Cloning of genes for the biosynthesis of tetracyclines from selected bacteria of Actinomycelates genus”. Within her thesis she cloned and characterized the gene cluster for the tetracycline antibiotic chelocardin. By in silico analysis she predicted putative gene functions of the cluster and deduced the biosynthetic pathway on their basis. Understanding the biosynthesis of chelocardin represents new opportunities for tetracycline analogs design by biosynthetic engineering.
