In this contribution, the in?uence of various physicochemical factors on Saccharomyces cerevisiae invasive growth is examined quantitatively. A strong preference for invasive growth (meaning high relative invasion) was observed when the strains were grown on nitrogen- and glucose-depleted media. A signi?cant increase in the invasion of the strains was also determined at temperatures typical for human fever (37–39 °C). On the other hand, a strong repressive effect on invasion was found in the presence of salts, anoxia and some preservatives.

The influence of three commonly used fungicides (iprodione, pyrimethanil and fludioxonil plus cyprodinil) on the density and diversity of yeast populations present on grape berries was evaluated. In general, larger yeast counts were found on the treated grapes than on the control samples. The results showed that the tested fungicides had only a minor impact on the composition of grape berry communities in comparison to the effect of weather conditions and the mode of grape berry sampling.

This is a complex publication, which brings the polyphenolic composition (content of total phenols, flavonoids, catechines, flavanols and individual polyphenols, i.e. different monomers of catechines, procyanidins and resveratrol) from 14 grape varieties, which were used for grape skin extracts preparation. They were confirmed to be highly antioxidatively and antimicrobialy active and as such useful as food additives for improvement of food quality, safety and shelf-life.

In this study, the pigment production of Vibrio sp. was studied under different physicochemical conditions. There was no pigment production at high or low temperatures, high or low salt concentrations in peptone yeast extract (PYE) medium, low glucose concentration in mineral growth medium or high glucose concentration in PYE medium. This indicates that the red pigment production is a luxurious good that Vibrio sp. makes only under favorable conditions. The red pigment is also a redundant antibacterial agent of Vibrio sp.

We report the identification of a previously unidentified region of the FK506 gene cluster from S. tsukubaensis NRRL 18488 containing genes encoding provision of unusual building blocks for FK506 biosynthesis. We identified a group of genes encoding biosynthesis of the extender unit which provides the allyl group at C21 of FK506, which has a potent immunosuppressant, registered for use after organ transplantation. Based on this work Sandoz/Lek, d.d. filed patent application, as part of the work described in this research article is directly applicable for FK506 process improvement.
