The article represents the economic valuation of the Landscape Development and Protection Area of Volčji Potok. For this purpose we combined classical contingent valuation with a closed-version of discrete choice method, where the protest responses have been removed. By using econometric analysis we obtained the value of willingness-to-pay and established its determinants. We also made an attempt to control for different biases that arise in such analyses. The present analysis represents one of the very few applications of the method to Central and Eastern European countries.

The main purpose of this study is to provide stronger quantitative evidence in the field of organizational absorptive capacity research by using a more direct measure of absorptive capacity and a wide range of variables in a cross-nationally tested structural model. The results show that there exist two kinds of absorptive capacity: demand-pull and science-push. Their most important determinants proved to be internal R&D, training of personnel, innovation co-operation and attitude toward change. Both kinds of absorptive capacity are positively related to product and process innovation output.

The article presents an analysis of several proposed tax reform scenarios in Slovenia, including the flat tax proposal, with a dynamic general equilibrium model of the Slovenian economy, linked to a microsimulation model. We focus on the macroeconomic and welfare aspects of the proposed scenarios, thus capturing the effects on individual taxpayers and the government budget. Our results suggest that choices other than the flat tax system are better suited to the country’s long-term economic development.

We analyzed the importance of taxes on corporate income and production-related tangible infrastructure as determinants of FDI in CEECs. The results from our panel econometric analysis of bilateral outward FDI flows of 7 home in 8 CEE host countries for the 1995-2004 period show that: (i) both taxes and infrastructure play a role in the location decisions made by Multinational Enterprises; (ii) telecommunication and transport infrastructure are of special significance to FDI, and (iii) the tax-rate sensitivity of FDI indeed decreases with the level of infrastructure endowment.

Accordingly to the international research analyses a large portion of the productivity advantage of exporters was found to be a result of self-selection of better performing firms into exporting, while evidence of learning-by-exporting is scarce at best. In this paper, we use data on Slovenian manufacturing enterprises between 1994 and 2002 to search for evidence on the effects of exporting on exporter productivity growth. Using a variety of empirical test we show that competition in exporting markets serves as an added criterion in firm self-selection.
