The aim was to compare the efficiency of two coils used for femoral nerve magnetic stimulation and to compare them with electrical stimulation in inducing maximal response of the quadriceps. The 45 mm double coil showed greater efficiency to elicit a maximal quadriceps response, which was similar to electrical stimulation. More generally, it can be concluded that the coil characteristics can severely affect the capacity of magnetic stimulation to induce supramaximal stimuli of the femoral nerve. Futures studies should define the standard for this technique.

The aim was to evaluate muscle fatigue 100-m all-out front crawl. Surface EMG was collected from the PM, LD and TB muscles of 11 experienced swimmers. EMG amplitude of TB and the lower part of LD increased, whilst the MNF of all muscles significantly decreased by 20–25%. No significant differences in the relative MNF decrease were observed amongst the muscles; however, the differences in the rate of the MNF decrease between the lower part of LD and the TB were found. It was concluded that 100-m all-out crawl induced significant fatigue with no evident differences amongst the analysed muscles.

: This was the first cohort study of obesity on Slovenian data whose objective was to examine the tracking of obesity from childhood to young adulthood. A 12-year cohort subsample included 4,833 children, tracked from age 7 to age 18. Height, weight, and BMI at 18 years were well predicted from childhood and became more predictable with age, while triceps skinfold fat was not. Obese and overweight children had the greatest risk of becoming obese or overweight young adults and over 40% of people who were obese at 18 years had already been obese at 7 years.

We investigated the iron-related haematological parameters in both male and female athletes participating in different sporting disciplines necessitating different metabolic energy demands. A total of 873 athletes (514 males, age: 22.08 +/- 4.95 years and 359 females, mean age: 21.38 +/- 3.88 years) were divided according to gender and to the predominant energy system required for participation in sport and haematological and iron-related parameters were measured. We conclude that the predominant energy system required for participation in sport affects haematological.

The proportion of overweight children has been growing rapidly. Certain consequences manifested in youth; in adulthood they are one of the main causes of death and several diseases. The study examined the proportion of overweight Slovenian girls (7-18 years) with the use of an annually repeated cross-sectional study from 1991-2006 and was based on the BMI. The results show that the proportion of overweight girls increased by almost 30%, whereas the proportion of obese girls doubled. The prevalence of overweight is highest in childhood and early adolescence.
