Textbook "Economics of European Integration" deals with operation of European economy and its determinants - economic structure, economic system and economic policies. It combines microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis. The book consists of eight chapters. Basic economic concepts, history of economic thought and methodological issues are presented first. The second section describes the EU economy: the size an the dynamics of GDP and the determinants of aggregate supply and aggregate demand. It is followed by the theory of economic integration and the development of EU. Monetary and fiscal integration are presented at length and other EU economic policies are analyzed as well. The textbook ends with critical analysis of contemporary economic and social challenges faced by EU. A procedure which is followed in the book consists of three steps: theory, normative regulation, and actual situation. Besides actual, the regulatory framework is presented historically and also looking at future prospects. The book does not avoid value judgments based on the findings of empirical research of the authors. Some knowledge of basic economics and statistics is useful for understanding the issues.

COBISS.SI-ID: 264071424The study deals with characteristics that affect the duration of employment of persons involved in the »Training and Education of Employees«measure of Active Labour Market Policy programme in the period of 2007-2013. Using propensity score matching, the estimated effectiveness of the measure is shown to be positive and statistically significant. The persons in the control group are on average 10.6 percentage points more likely to lose their jobs, as a person involved in the measure. The positive effects of the observed measure are also shown by the estimated Kaplan-Meier survival function. Percentage of employed persons at the end of the formal program duration is just under 95% and less than 90% in the control group. The analysis shows that the male are employed longer than female and managers and professionals longer than those of industrial and simple professions. Cox proportional hazards model shows that with increasing age of persons in the program the possibility of job loss increases, the risk of loss of employment is lower for women as well as for managers and professionals.

COBISS.SI-ID: 518222361The “energy market organizer” in developed countries is more than average active (according his revenues). Especially in large countries this institution is oriented to achieve external economies. Larger “market organizer's” activity (more revenues of “market organizer”) influences the decrease of transaction costs in energy markets and improve the possibility for greater use of energy. The active “market organizer” is characteristically connected with international openness in energy market as well as with the development of gas use in given country. Better equipped (greater assets), more active (according to his revenues) and more profitable (larger EBIT) “market organizer” was in 2010 connected with higher level of electricity and natural gas prices.

COBISS.SI-ID: 518666265»Regulation of subsidies for electricity generated by renewable energy resources« defines financial aid that can be obtained by renewable energy power plants and calculation of reference costs of generating electricity that is the foundation for the amount of subsidy. Our paper gives a short overview of the methodology for determining the reference costs, developed by Centre for Energy Efficiency at the Jozef Stefan Institute, and presents reference costs calculations for different types of renewable energy plants. Solar plants have the highest reference costs, while large hydro power plants and wind power plants are the most cost efficient. Sensitivity analysis shows that reference cost is sensitive with respect to investment costs, whereas loan interest rate has only a minor influence on the reference costs.

COBISS.SI-ID: 11169564In this report, we present all results of the research project. Microeconometric analysis of the three selected measures of active labour market policy (ALMP) (subsidies, training and education of the unemployed, training and education of the employees) is based on the propensity score matching approach. Results for individual ALMP measures are mixed, both positive and negative. Macroeconometric analysis was performed using the augmented matching functions and dynamic panel models, where we used instrumental variables. Long-term effects were studied by means of steady state. We also give an overview of the results of studies for the EU countries from a meta-analysis conducted for the European Commission, as well as an extensive table of empirical research on the effectiveness of ALMP measures for transition countries. The last chapter describes the recommendations for improvement and reorganization of the analyzed programmes.
