Traditional Chinese occasional poetry comprises court and personal poetry. The latter was enriched by the author's intimate note. Farewell poems occupied a prominent position since parting as it was an important social event. All the poems discussed in the paper, except the last one, are a perfect example of this thematic type. Setting out for a distant place and the loss of a dear friend shocked the poet whose feelings were thus deeply hurt.
