By using the phenomenological approach based on a random bond random field model the upper bond on the electrocaloric effect in polar solids was estimated. The theoretical results are in good agreement with our experimental findings on PLZT ceramics.

We found that the ferroelectric poly(vinylidene-fluoride/trifluoroethylene) 55/45 mol % copolymer has significantly enhanced electrocaloric response at ferroelectric-paraelectric transition.

We found that the electrocaloric responsivity has maximum at the liquid-vapor type critical point.
