Authors presented the chemical composition of meat and certain meat products, with emphasis on the content of minerals. Meat and meat products can be considered as a source of biologically important minerals mainly due to better bioavailability of some microelements such as iron, zinc and selenium. In comparison with other foods meat as such is relatively poor in sodium, chlorine, iodine, phosphorus, and is very poor source of necessary calcium.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3721592The invention relates to a method for determining genotoxicity of an agent and a cell based system useful therefore. In particular, the invention describes a biosensor system for detecting DNA damage in metabolically competent cell cultures. The problem the invention solves is rapid and sensitive measurement of genotoxicity using microtiterplate spectrofluorimeter. The assay system uses p53 competent, metabolically active HepG2 cells stably transfected with plasmid containing the DsRed reporter system under the control of p21 gene that is specifically upregulated in response to DNA damage.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2328399European Commission asked the European Food Safety Authority for a scientific opinions on the risks to human health related to the presence of different classes of polybrominated flame retardants in food. The opinions are prepared by the working group of experts to which I have been appointed. My role was to prepare critical overview of the available information on genotoxicity, teratogenicity and hormone homeostasis disturbances related effects. Six opinions were adopted and published (PBDEs, PBBs, HBCDDs; TBBPAs, HBCDDs and new emerging BFRs). All published opinions are public available at: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/publications.htm.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2364239At the conference 27th Food Technology Days 2012, which is every year organized by Biotechnical faculty, Chair for Food technology I presented potential benefits that nanotechnologies definitely offer as well as potential risks that still have to be identified and quantified. I stressed out also the consumers perception on these technologies and presented current regulative in this field. The lecture was very well accepted.
