In one of the most important international conferences dedicated to quantum criticality, we reported on 14N NMR measurements on a spin-ladder system, CuBr4(C5H12N)2. We presented our understanding of a phase diagram especially in the extremely low temperature range, where quantum critical fluctuations become important.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23249447During the 15 hours lectures prof. Arčon, visiting professor at the Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, lectured basics of magnetic resonance and the applications of magnetic resonance for the research of metals and magnetic systems. Theoretical discussions were supported with numerous examples.

COBISS.SI-ID: 22447399Density functional theory calculations performed for the new multiferroic FeTe2O5Br reveal surprisingly strong supersuperexchange pathways through FeOTeOFe bridges, implying that the magnetic lattice must be treated as a system of alternating Fe chains coupled by frustrated interactions. We find firm support for this model in the magnetization and the antiferromagnetic resonance measurements as well as in the matching of the incommensurate magnetic vector. Its peculiar temperature dependence is explained by interchain exchange-striction being responsible for the emergent net electric polarization.

COBISS.SI-ID: 24455975When the dimensionality of the antiferromagnet is reduced to one, quantum fluctuations start to play the crucial role. Their interplay with exchange interactions between neighboring spins leads to a state described as a Luttinger liquid (LL). In this vcontribution we reported that the remaining weak coupling between the ladders was shown by NMR to lead at very low temperatures to the 3D ordering dominated by the transverse staggered correlation function. Well inside the LL phase in the HT phase diagram the 3D ordering can be explained within the meanfield treatment.
