COBISS.SI-ID: 25380135CoCrMo alloy is one of the most important alloys in orthopedics. This alloy exhibits high hardness, high wear resistance and superior corrosion resistance under physiological conditions. Electrochemical characterization of CoCrMo alloy under various simulated physiological conditions was presented. In vitro electrochemical experiments were correlated to examples from clincal practice. For that purpose, prosthetic components made of CoCrMo alloy retrieved after long-term implantation were analysed in terms of corrosion and wear damage. The composition and morphology of metal particles isolated from periprosthetic tissue were presented. Furthermore, histological analysis of periprosthetic tissue was used to determine the biological impact of metal particles.

COBISS.SI-ID: 25178919Part of the research study of retrieved prosthetic components and metal particles are included in the PhD thesis by Malgorzata Figurska. The thesis entitled »Mechanical, histological and biological analysis of artificial joint loosening« was defended in March 2010 at the University of Technology Wrocłav, Poland, under the supervision by Prof. R. Bedzinski and I. Milošev. Majority of the experimental part of the thesis was carried out at the Department of Physical and Organic Chemistry of the Jožef Stefan Institute.
