Biodegradation of textiles is an important process from ecological point of view, while strongly undesirable when products are still in use. In the paper antimicrobial activity and biodegradability of cotton fabric modified by a 3-(trimethoxysilil)-propyldimethyltetradecyl ammonium chloride was studied. It was found out that the finish provides excellent antibacterial activity against various types of bacteria, while giving insufficient antifungal activity. Consequently, cotton fabric remains biodegradable and environmentally friendly despite of the applied antimicrobial finish.
B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 2197872In the paper, the use of alkoxysilanes for the preparation of organic-inorganic hybrids of nanocomposite structure is presented with a stress on the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), synthesised in the Laboratory for the spectroscopy of materials of National Institute of Chemistry. The use of POSS in the preparation of spectrally selective paint coatings for solar absorbers with the increased spectral selectivity, is shown. Due to superhydrophobicity and oleophobicity of POSS, self cleaning properties of the coatings and permanency of the optic properties are provided.
