Our understanding of the mechanisms of complications after pecutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is incomplete. 142 consecutive patients treated by PTA were followed-up. Restenosis occurred in 54 (38%) patients and reocclusion in 31 (22%) patients. Blood lipids, P-selectin and tissue-type plasminogen activator were associated with adverse outcome of the PTA. The possible prognostic value of any of these variables should be tested in prospective studies.

COBISS.SI-ID: 27368665In order to obtain results that reflect the true haemostatic state of patients receiving heparin, this anticoagulant needs to be neutralized. We investigated heparin-neutralizing properties of protamine and polybrene 17 patients who received 5000 IU of unfractionated heparin before the percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. Maximal neutralization of heparin was achieved with protamine at 0.4 HE/mL and polybrene at 0.5 HE/mL as determined by activated partial thromboplastin and thrombin time.
