Alien species – imperialistic invaders

According to invitation by National Radio Slovenia (3rd Program) the project collaborators presented the problem of alien species in natural ecosystems with special emphasis put on the results of this project. As a case study the newly discovered Australian crayfish population Cherax quadricarinatus in Slovenia was given.

Tropical crayfish in the largest thermal oxbow in Slovenia

Results of studies in thermal oxbow Topla, in which population of alien crayfish the redclaw Cherax quadricarinatus was discovered in 2009, are presented. In the paper the socio-economic relevant issues considering uncontrolled introductions of alien species into aquatic ecosystems are shown. The contribution is aimed to science promotion and knowledge transfer from science to general public.

Invasive animals

The project collaborators were invited by national television RTV Slovenija in preparation of documentary about invasive animals. The documentary was aimed to raise public awareness on the problem of alien species in natural ecosystems. In the documentary we have presented first results of project on problems of alien crayfish species in Slovenia. As an example the case of newly discovered Australian crayfish population, the Redclaw Cherax quadricarinatus, in thermal oxbow Topla was given.
