The TiAlN-based nanolayers were the topics of the PhD thesis of Dr Matjaž Panjan, which was defended in the previous year. In his work he explained the influence of deposition parameters on nanolayer structure, which he proved both experimentally and using a computer simulation.

COBISS.SI-ID: 251813632TiAlN/a-CNx double layer coating combines the advantages of a very hard, thermally stable TiAlN with the sliding and lubricating properties of the top a-CNx layer. The tribological performance of such coating strongly depends on the deposition method and deposition parameters. In this lecture some results of structural, microstructural and tribological characterization of TiAlN/a-CNx coatings were presented. We also presented some results of performance test of powder compaction tools protected with such coating in industrial production. A significant improvement of tool lifetime was obtained.

COBISS.SI-ID: 25153831The topics of this handbook are related with different materials which are important in modern industrial prodution (metals, ceramics, polimers), surface engineering techniques which used in order to improve their wear, corrosion and oxidation resistance as well as various methods for testing of their mechanical properties. The conventional (machining: turning, milling, boring, grinding) and non-conventional (EDM, water jet) manufacturing technologyies are also the subject of this book.

COBISS.SI-ID: 244690944Last year Dr. Srečko Paskvale defended his PhD thesis »Carbon-based protective coatings deposited by physical vapour deposition processes«, where he analyzed the tribological properties of coatings with a low friction coefficient, prepared by different deposition techniques. Most emphasis was given to the bilayer coating TiAlN/a-CNx, which was successfully implemented in industrial production. In his work he analyzed the dependence of friction coefficient and wear parameters on the deposition parameters (thickness, rotation rate and sample position in the chamber), and surface condition (roughness, defect density).
