The instruction presented give us an explanation of a draft of the new Slovenian standard for visual strength grading of structural sawn timber. Explained are the methods of measuring the strength-reducing characteristics, geometrical characteristics and characteristics that are associated with biological degradation of wood. The basic correlations between these characteristics are given and their influence on the bending strength of wood are explained. The requirements for grading classes S7, S10 and S13 are presented, separately for beams, planks, boards and battens.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1743753In this lecture methods of grading of sawn wood are presented. Explained are differences between the quality grading, the visual strength grading and the strength grading of timber. The requirements of SIST EN 14081-1 standard for strength reducing characteristics for visual grading standards are presented and the list of the corresponding national grading rules for different european countries is given. It is also explained, how the visual strength grades can be assigned to the appropriate strength class and the basic conditions for CE marking of this products.
