European Commission has positioned prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections as an important priority with Council recommendation of 9 June 2009 on patient safety, including the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. Structure of activities in this area in Slovenia as well as specific problems are presented in the paper.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2853605In December 2012 we organized a meeting of the Slovenian National Hospital Acquired Infections Survey Network to present preliminary results to collaborators from all Slovenian acute care hospitals and to discuss them. All hospitals' representatives were given their preliminary results and cleaned data sets containing the data collected in their own hospital.

We found out that less than one third of the patients with an increased risk of getting MRSA were screened for MRSA on admission according to our hospital guidelines. Taking surveillance swabs was more common on weekends and holidays than on working days and also depended on the type of ward to which the patient was admitted.
