Liquefaction of wood in glycerol was shown. As a novelty, selfcrosslinking ability of the mixture liquefied wood – excessive glycerol was presented. It was proven that that the film formation process was a chemical reaction; the film retained its aromatic character, probably, a polyether-ketone type network was formed. The prepared coating exhibited high gloss and superior resistance against liquids. The presentation on an important European biorefinery conference induced significant interest.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1753737Importance of this work is in liquefaction of spruce wood, while the majority of literature data refers to liquefaction of hardwood species. As usually, the focus of our research was on investigations of self-crosslinked films prepared from liquefied wood. The results were presented on the traditional Zagreb conference, thusly spreading information among participants from Central and Eastern Europe, who traditionally attend this conference.
