In this lecture genes involved in regulation and provision of substrate supply and their role in the biosynthesis and yield of FK506 during the biosynthetic process by Streptomyces tsukubaensis were presented and opportunities in the area of metabolic and biosynthetic engineering of FK506/520 compounds was discussed.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3861112In the collaboration with Lek/Sandoz, the co-financer of this project, we are involved in the development of new technology for production of the generic compound FK506 (takrolimus). This R&D projects is aimed at the optimization of the production bioprocess process using genetic and metabolic engineering. Identification of the genes in the “all” genetic subcluster helped the researchers of Acies Bio and Lek/Sandoz in designing and developing an improved procedure for FK506 biosynthesis. Based on the results of the joint research work, Lek/Sandoz filed a patent application at the EPO.
