This discussion briefly recounts the life of Ivan Grafenauer. He stood out as a university student of Slavic and German philology; however, despite his excellent traininig he did not pursue a career in this field. Grafenauer instead substituted this lost professional option with the opportunity to become the first head of the newly established Institute for Slovenian Ethnology at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The following chapters are commentaries of his life work, focused primarily on literary folklore. The themes set apart for discussion include this synthetic works (for example The Ethnography of Slovenians II) and certain fine-grained analyses of folk songs and proverbs. However, the cultural-historical method, which hi emplemented with such enthusiasm, is no longer held to be profesionallay valid.

Paremiology is a branch of folklore studies involving research into proverbs, their origins, construction and functions. An important part of paremiology is paremiography: the collecting, writing down and representation of proverbs. The question of how to make the collected material as representative as possible, which language transfer. The conclusion is that the analysis of these mistakes may help predict some of those mistakes.

The paper focuses on the rhetorical genres, especially Janez Svetokriški (1647-1714) and Rogerij Ljubljanski (1667-1728) as the most prominent representative of the rhetoric of 18th century, they have set a model for Baroque narration of these narrative genres. Even though after the personal elements of quite different, both are created in the Baroque style formations. We will focus on selection and method of use of the forms of folklore: proverbs, riddles, greetings, profanity, greetings. It will be displayed in the frequencies of these texts, function and exceptional use, but the way it is closer to the listener to use non-Latin, people familiar form.
