Evaluation of digital data for determination of natural landscape types in Slovenia

In order to achieve a landscape classification of Slovenia using geographical information systems we need to select appropriate data. Two methods for the evaluation of a digital data relevancy for determination of natural landscape types were proposed. To find out which data layer can reveal differences among potential Slovenian landscape types, each layer was compared with the map of manually defined Landscape-ecological Types. Data relevancy was defined by Gain Ratio and the Mann-Whitney U test. In this research we analysed the digital data that describe main natural characteristics of a landscape: altitude, slope, rainfall regime, temperature, rock type, river density etc.
