We analyse the size of emigration and profile of emigrants among Slovene scientists in the 2004-2009 period, by statistical region. Our analysis is based on a survey of all research organisations, conducted in 2009. This paper presents the broader context of the analysis, methodology of analysis, comparison of population and respondents' characteristics, followed by the analysis of the size of emigration and characteristics of emigrants. Emigration was observed in seven (of 12) regions. Expressed in relative terms (as a percentage of all researchers employed in organisations-respondents at the time of surveying), emigration was the largest in Goriška, Gorenjska and Pomurska regions. The value of the above indicator in these regions amounts to roughly 2 %. Large differences in many 'personal' and 'organisational' characteristics were observed among emigrants from different regions.
