The paper presents the process of researching war casualties in Slovenia, the historical context, methodological issues and problems involved in the research, the principles of the census, as well as the results of the research, where the numbers are significantly higher than the previous evaluations of the number of deaths.

The interview presents the history and methodological issues involved in the years of researching the victims of World War II. A structural analysis of casualties with regard to causers, wartime statuses, regions, time periods and other parameters has been carried out. The losses of the population in Slovenia have been compared to the losses in the European space.

The internal computer database includes various categories of information for approximately 97,500 deaths. The database represents the basis for evaluation, structural analyses and data processing for the needs of the state and other purposes. The public information at the website currently includes information about 44,404 casualties, which could be verified in the context of the research conducted to date on the basis of the systematic review of central registers.
