Ten days dedicated to fighting cancer

PI Tamara T. Lah (NIB) was a co-organizer of the threelogy meeting events dedicated to causes, progression and treatment of cancer disease, with world-class home and international scientists and experts attendance (from Europe, Korea, Taiwan, USA, Argentina and Brasil). Events started with the European organisation for research and therapy of cancer-EORTC meeting, continued with the »7th Conference on Experimental and Translational Oncology« and ended with the international postgraduate school ISS 2013 on »Modern approaches to research and treatment of cancer.«(see 6.3.)

Proteolytic enzymes products in in vitro co-cultures of glioblastoma and mesenchymal stem cells

Besides GSC, which are crucial for initiation and progression of glioblastoma, the tumour tissue also contains mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). We have investigated the function of MSC during their modulation of tumour growth via direct interactions with GBM stem cells - GSC. We have evaluated one of the potential biomarkers of these intetactions, which was bradykinin receptor 1 (BR1).

The role of EGFR and FGFR signal pathways and new biomarkers of Glioblastoma stem cells.

In this work, we established a few novel biomarkers of glioblastoma stem cells (GSC) using proteomics analyses, and evaluated tetraspanin CD9 in more details. We also established that GSCs, regardless of their expression of EGFR are better cultured without EGF addition and can grow better in the medium with bFGF only.
