The experiment on hydrogen combustion THAI HD-22 was performed at Becker Technologies (Germany) at similar conditions as the UFPE experiment within the project. To develop an adequate model to simulate the UFPE experiment with the ASTEC code, the experiment THAI HD-22 was simulated with the same code. A satisfactory agreement between measured and calculated results was obtained for the pressure increase, temperature at different locations and flame propagation velocity.

The Elsevier publishing company has published the book Nuclear Safety in Light Water Reactors under the editorship of Prof. Bal Raj Sehgal from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (Sweden). The book is the first one, in which all phenomena that occur during a severe accident in a nuclear power plant are considered. The project researcher I.Kljenak has contributed, together with two colleagues from IRSN (France) and KIT (Germany), the chapter about hydrogen behavior and control.

The KROTOS (France) steam explosion experiments revealed important differences in the energy conversion efficiency among the melts. In the presented research, we have focused on the solidification effect which influences directly the strength of the steam explosion. An improved solidification influence model was developed and implemented into the exploratory version of the MC3D code. For the assessment of the model, the KROTOS alumina K44 and corium K53 explosion experiments were selected and simulated. The simulations support the key role of the solidification in the steam explosion phenomenon.
