As an alternative to the commonly used univariate flood frequency analysis, copula frequency analysis can be used. Bivariate frequency analyses of peaks and volumes, volumes and durations, and peaks and durations were made using different copulas from different families. The most appropriate copulas were selected using different statistical, graphical tests. Different return periods and corresponding estimated variables were calculated.

The article presents a comparison of the results using annual maximum method (AM) and peaks-over-threshold method (POT). POT analyses were made for different threshold values. AM model was used using different two- and three-parameters theorethical distributions. Parameters were estimated with the method of moments, L- moments and maximum likelihood method. The best fitting distributions were selected using statistical and graphical tests.

58 flood waves of the Litija station on the Sava River have been analysed in the research. Peaks, volumes and durations of flood waves and their correlation have been analysed. The aim of the study is to determine the reasonableness of using hourly or daily discharge data with and without consideration of local extremes. The results show that the correlation between volumes and durations is higher than the correlation between peaks and volumes of the wave. Peaks and durations are independent variables as expected.
