The availability of suitable infrastructure represents one of the key factors for sustainable development of the society and economy. The concept of smart cities exposed the importance of sensorial infrastructure supporting various application domains. In part instigated by the needs for the investigation and demonstration of solutions developed in the project J2-4197 we started with the deployment of experimental sensor network testbed LOG-a-TEC based on the VESNA sensor platform. The testbed environment now comprises several geographically distributed sensor networks which are all annotated by rich metadata, accessible via web-based network management application, and linked into the online application VIDEK. In all cases the wireless sensor network implementation is based on the VESNA platform, a versatile platform for sensor network applications. Sensor network deployed on the public infrastructure in the city of Logatec for experimental research in the areas of cognitive radio and networking is part of the FP7 CREW testbed federation and thus represents one of the FIRE initiative facilities. As a result of the developed VESNA platform and deployed LOG-a-TEC testbed environment we received also in 2013 several invitations to participate in the preparation of FP7/H2020 and national projects, including FP7 SUNSEED project that started with work in February 2014 and two national SMER+ projects, one with Adria Mobil and one with Cosylab.
F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 27037223The member of the project team has in her doctoral thesis proposed and treated a generalized concept of service-oriented architecture to the area of communication networks, with the emphasis on network functionality considered as a composition of basic communication services. These can be dynamically composed in accordance with the requirements of applications and thereby facilitate the planning and testing of new protocol stacks and allow adaptation of composite services to the changing requirements of a user or an application. In this respect the doctoral dissertation proposed a conceptual framework for prototyping modular protocol stacks as a composition of communication services, and its reference implementation, together forming the baseline for the development of a flexible reconfigurable modular network architecture that could enable run-time adaptation of the protocol stack and its parameters. The doctoral thesis theoretically complements the project J2-4197 and demonstrates the exchange of new knowledge and achievements between the research project and study process. The project leader served as a supervisor to this thesis.

COBISS.SI-ID: 266457088The project team increased international visibility and recognition due to activities and results in the area of sensor technologies, of which an important part is carried out in the project J2-4197, as well as due to the open experimental sensor network testbed LOG-a-TEC. Besides the invitations to participate in the preparation of projects this is evidenced also by the inclusion of the project leader in the editorial board of the specialized journal in the area of sensor technologies, the International journal of distributed sensor networks (ISSN 1550-1329; IF=0,727), and the invited lectures of the project team members at foreign universities and international events: 1.10 Published scientific conference contribution abstract (invited lecture) FORTUNA, Carolina.
