Due to “objectivization,” in recent decades the aesthetic significance of natural values has been consciously, but probably unjustly, overlooked in defining the importance of these values. A survey on the valuation of landscape features in the protected area of Triglav National Park showed that landscape features with water elements are the most attractive to people and that one may speak of collective patterns of perceiving natural beauty

PECSRL is an international network of landscape researchers whose interest focuses on the past, present and future of European landscapes. It aims at establishing an international platform for new initiatives, organising meetings, preparing publications about European rural landscapes, and focusing on actual problems in European landscape management and landscape research.

Mimi Urbanc became the editor of the book series Exploring Cultural Spaces of Europe published by international publishing houes Peter Lang Verlag. The series explores languages, cultures, and societies of Central and South Eastern Europe, with a special focus on Slovenia. The aim of the series is to publish indepth studies in the humanities and social sciences produced not only by ZRC SAZU but also by other scholars from Slovenia and elsewhere. The first volume has just been published and the second one is in preparation.

Mimi Urbanc was leading the evaluation board of the project SY_CULTour – The synergy of culture and tourism for the development of rural areas. SY_CULTour was a project of European Territorial Cooperation Programme and the final objective of the successful project (awarded with Europa Nostra "special mention of the jury"), which included 10 partners from SouthEast Europe, was to create innovative and sustainable tool to use cultural heritage as part of the tourism development of less developed rural areas.
